On November 28, the Advent fast began for Orthodox Christians around the world, which will last 40 days until Orthodox Christmas itself - January 7, reports TASS.

On Christmas Day, the use of animal products - meat, dairy products, eggs - is prohibited. There may be relief in fasting for sick or pregnant women.

Unlike Great Lent (before Easter), fish and fish caviar are permitted on Christmas Day. The fasting menu also includes simple bread, cereals, fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, nuts, and vegetable oil. Spiritual cleansing is also important these days - prayers, attendance at services, communion and confession.
