In the seaport of Alyat in Azerbaijan, the leadership of the republic has allocated a separate section for cargo from Turkmenistan. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking at an international conference on the theme “Along the Middle Corridor: Geopolitics, Security and Economics”, which is taking place in Baku.
“I think that the hydrocarbon transportation routes that are already in operation will enable all the countries of the Caspian region to become more integrated. Our cooperation with Turkmenistan has a long history. Today, Azerbaijan provides significant opportunities for the transit of goods from Turkmenistan, and in the seaport of Alyat we have allocated a separate section for goods from Turkmenistan”, the Azerbaijan State News Agency quoted Ilham Aliyev as saying.
Let us remind that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are connected by a Baku-Turkmenbashi cargo-passenger ferry. The ports of Alyat (Baku) and Turkmenbashi have all the necessary equipment for receiving and processing railway cars and trains.
CJSC “Baku International Sea Trade Port” (BISTP) was built in the village of Alyat on an area of 400 hectares.
