Turkmenistan plans to increase the volume of electricity supplies to foreign countries to 9 billion kilowatt-hours in 2022. This was stated by the chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting with students and teachers of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan in Mary, reports today the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
“At present time, Turkmen electrical energy, in addition to Afghanistan, is exported to Iran, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. This year, it is planned to increase the volume of deliveries to 9 billion kilowatt-hours. This figure is 3,3 times higher than in 2013,” said Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
He noted that today in Turkmenistan there are 12 power plants with a capacity of 6943,2 megawatts, where 51 turbine units are installed, of which 39 are gas turbines and 12 are steam turbines.
According to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the commissioning of a new combined cycle power plant in Mary in September 2018 made it possible to increase electricity sent abroad by 3 billion kilowatt-hours.
The head of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of the national parliament noted that the surplus electricity generated at the Dashoguz state power plant is exported to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also reminded that on February 1, 2020, the construction of a 220-kilovolt power transmission line from the Mary State Power Plant to the city of Herat began. This, in his opinion, will make it possible to export electricity to Pakistan and other countries of South Asia in transit through Afghanistan.
