The players of the youth national team of Turkmenistan in the match of the second round of the Asian Cup-2022 (under 23) against Iran showed a good game, said the head coach of the Turkmen team Ahmed Agamuradov.
The meeting of group “A” was held on Saturday in Tashkent and ended with a score 2:1 in favor of youth national team of Turkmenistan. This victory allowed the charges of Ahmed Agamuradov to take second place in group “A”, gaining 3 points. The Turkmenistan team has made a good bid to enter the playoffs.
AFС named this victory of the Turkmen football players historic, since the youth since the youth national team (under 23 years old) used to be Turkmenistan has never participated in the final part of the Asian Cup among the top 16 teams of the continent before.
“Turkmenistan won its first match at the Youth Asian Cup (under 23), and I’m very proud of this achievement. My players played well, and after this match we have to think over the next match – against Qatar. We have to do everything possible in order to pass to the next round.
This match was very important for both teams, because we needed a positive result to return to the relevant track. There are no any disputes here on the fact which team was better. To my mind, Iran as well as Turkmenistan has strong national teams in this competition. The difference is only in the fact that we materialized our moments and created the history of the Turkmen football.
After the final whistle players had a festive mood in the locker room. We all were very happy after the victory over Iran. I let them enjoy this moment because they deserved it. However, then I told them that they should forget about this victory and quickly focus their attention on our next match against Qatar,” Agamuradov said at the post—match press conference.
In the final match of “A” group, the charges of Ahmed Agamuradov will play with Qatar in Tashkent. The meeting will be on June 7. The starting whistle will sound on 22:00 Ashgabat time. Before the last round, the “youth team” of Turkmenistan is ahead of the national team of Iran and Qatar by 2 points, and therefore, in the final match with the Qataris, the Turkmen team will be satisfied with a draw to reach the quarterfinals.
