Serdar Berdimuhamedov led a mass bike ride on the occasion of World Bicycle Day

The World Bicycle Day, established by the UN General Assembly, was widely celebrated in Turkmenistan today. The main events of this international holiday, health, sports and ecology were held in the Turkmen capital, where a mass bike ride took place with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

According to the Information Program "Watan" of the Turkmen Television, the head of state led a column of cyclists that rode from the monument "Bicycle" along the Chandybil and Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenues to the city center.

The bike ride was also attended by Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of both Chambers of Parliament, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, capital’s administration, representatives of public organizations, media, students and teachers of higher educational institutions. On the way, pupils of the Palace of Orphans joined them on bicycles donated by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Along the bike ride route that stretched to the Rukhyet Palace, on-stage performance groups acted and that brought a colorful flavor to the palette of the holiday.

Mass bike rides on the occasion of the World Bicycle Day were also held in all regions of Turkmenistan today.

In 2018, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution declaring June 3 the World Bicycle Day. It was co-authored by 56 countries. And this year, at the 61st meeting of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, another Resolution was unanimously adopted again on the initiative of Turkmenistan - "Integration of mass cycling into public transport systems to achieve sustainable development.
