Representatives of public organizations of Turkmenistan held a series of consultative meetings to determine the needs and capabilities of the organization on gender equality issues.
The public organization Ýeňme with the support of the regional program “Ray of Light” held the event.
The meetings discussed the improvement of national legislation in accordance with the principles of gender equality, gender stereotypes and the identification of priority areas for combating gender-based violence, ensuring greater participation of women in social, political and professional life.
The working group, which was formed from representatives of public organizations of Turkmenistan, defined the vision and role of the civil sector in stopping and preventing gender-based violence and developed further proposals for strengthening regional cooperation.
“Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but also an essential basis for achieving peace, prosperity and sustainable development. Gender equality concerns everyone. Making gender equality a priority means giving the female every opportunity and right to fulfill their potential. And realizing that violence is often hidden, denied or perceived as something insignificant, the efforts of all stakeholders are needed. Violence remains a serious obstacle to the realization of human rights, women and girls, and to the achievement of sustainable development goals,” said Gulya Chorekliyeva, head of the Ýeňme.
