The InSight station, which has been operating on Mars since 2018, has recorded record-breaking quakes for the entire time of observations. As informs ixbt.com, we are talking about two seismic events that occurred last fall with an interval of 24 days. The quakes had magnitudes of 4,1 and 4,2 on the Richter scale.

Previous record events had magnitudes of 3,1 and 3,3. At the same time, it is noted that taking into account the logarithmic nature of the Richter scale, new Mars quakes are five times stronger than the previous ones. The seismic event occurred in the so-called “shadow zone” of Mars. Scientists noted that the 4,1 magnitude quake was the first time that it was possible to register low-amplitude waves (Pdiff) that crossed the boundary of the planet's core and its mantle.

The duration of this quake was 94 minutes, which was the longest from recorded.
