The FIFA Congress approved the Russian as one of the official languages in the organization, reports MIA “Rossiya Segodnya”.
The decision on this was made today at a meeting of the 72nd FIFA Congress in Doha (Qatar). 187 representatives voted “for” and representatives voted – “against”.
The Congress meets annually, in the year of the World Cup it holds in the host country of the tournament.
A delegation of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan headed by Annabayram Durdymammedov also participated the meeting.
The International Football Federation (abbreviated FIFA, in Russian translation – FIFA) is the main football organization, which is the largest international governing body in football, futsal and beach soccer. The headquarters of FIFA is located in the Swiss city of Zurich. Under the auspices of FIFA, all world-class football tournaments are held, including the FIFA World Cup, a similar tournament for women, youth tournaments, the Confederations Cup and the Club World Cup.
In accordance with the FIFA’s regulation, the official languages are English, Spanish, French and German.
