The Independence Day of Bangladesh is celebrated on the 26th of March annually on the anniversary of proclamation of the Independence from Pakistan in 1971. This is a national holiday celebrated with great solemnities.

After the formal proclamation of the independence of Bangladesh in March 1971, the Liberation War against Pakistan authorities has started. It lasted for 9 months. The war ended on the 16th of December 1971 and this date made it into country’s history as Victory Day.

Parades, fares, concerts and other festive events are conducted traditionally on the Independence Day of Bangladesh. On this day special programs are broadcasted on television and patriotic songs are played on the air of the national radio. The main streets of the cities are decorated with national flags. A salvo of 31 guns in honor of the country's independence is also traditional on this day.
