In Ashgabat, the CIS International Observers’ Mission continues monitoring the Election Campaign in Turkmenistan.
According to the website of the CIS Executive Committee, the observers under the Head of the Mission, Leonid Anfimov, met with Babamyrat Meredov, a Presidential candidate from the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Babamyrat Meredov reported on the course of his campaign, the activities of the Election Headquarters and the assessment of the electoral process, describing his decision to run for the highest state post and his Election Program in detail.
The Head of the Observers’ Mission informed that meetings had already been held with the Chairman of the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referenda Gulmurat Muradov and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
Leonid Anfimov also told the Presidential candidate of Turkmenistan of his impressions during the visit of long-term observers to a number of polling stations in Ashgabat.
“In the country, equal conditions have been established for the Election Campaign to all candidates for the highest state post. All candidates have equal rights and equal opportunities,” he concluded.
As Anfimov further said, the CIS Observers’ Mission will consist of 39 people at the elections; these are the representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The main group of observers is expected to arrive in Turkmenistan on March 9 and immediately begin monitoring the Election Campaign, the Head of the Mission added.
Also, once again, Leonid Anfimov stressed that the Mission's assessment would be made on the basis of official information, factual material provided by the election organizers and their own observation, the source notes.
To recap, the delegation of the CIS Executive Committee headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Leonid Anfimov arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the assessment of the upcoming Presidential elections in Turkmenistan on February 28.
