Today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the Head of his Security Service to implement legal framework on the ex-President of Turkmenistan during a meeting of the State Security Council. The State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported it.

“During the meeting, the Head of the Security Service of the President of Turkmenistan D. Meredov noted that the Constitution of the country establishes special legal framework on the ex-President, and, based on this, reported on the implementation to be introduced from the Articles of the Basic Law.

After listening to the report, the Head of State instructed conducting relevant work on the basis of the country’s Constitution,” the message says.

To recap, on February 11, at the meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced his intention to cede the post of the country’s President to a young leader, retaining only the post of Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (Chamber of the National Parliament). The Head of State reasoned his decision by the fact that two years ago he reached the age of the Prophet.

The Honorary Elders who spoke at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty of Milli Gengesh supported the decision of the President of the country.

On March 12, early Presidential elections will be held in Turkmenistan.

The election campaign is currently underway in the country. Nine people are running for the highest state post, including Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is in charge of the financial and economic complex.
