Russian tennis player Medvedev overtook Serbian Novak Djokovic to become world number one for the first time in his career, reports Sports.ru.
This became known after the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) published an updated version of the men's singles rankings.
The first number of the world ranking has not changed for 2 years. Medvedev edged out Djokovic after Novak lost in the quarter-finals of the ATP-500 tournament in Dubai (UAE) and Daniil advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP-500 tournament in Acapulco (Mexico).
The first five according to the ATP version of February 28, 2022:
- Daniil Medvedev (Russia) - 8615 points;
- Novak Djokovic (Serbia) - 8465;
- Alexander Zverev (Germany) - 7515;
- Rafael Nadal (Spain) - 6515;
- Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) – 6445
