Chelsea win the Club World Cup

In Abu Dhabi (UAE), at the “Mohammed bin Zayed” Stadium, the final match of the Club World Cup took place, in which “Chelsea” and “Palmeiras” played. The meeting ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the representatives of the European continent.

Romelu Lukaku (55th minute) and Kai Havertz (117, from the penalty spot) scored goals for the winners. The losers scored Rafael Veiga (64, from the penalty spot).

“Chelsea” have won the Club World Cup for the first time in their history. The team qualified for the tournament by winning the Champions League in the 2020/21 season. “Palmeiras” won the Copa Libertadores last year.

In the semi-finals of the tournament, “Chelsea” beat “Al-Hilal” from Saudi Arabia (1:0), “Palmeiras” defeated” Al-Ahli” from Egypt (2:0).

“Chelsea” became the eighth European team to win the Club World Cup. Previously, this trophy was won by “Real Madrid” (4 times), Spanish “Barcelona” (3 times), German “Bayern” (2 times), Italian “Milan” and “Inter”, and English “Manchester United” (all - 1 each).

As for the match for third place, “Al-Ahli” became its winner. The Egyptians defeated “Al-Hilal” from Saudi Arabia (4:0).

The club world championship in its current format was first held in 2000, and then began to be held regularly since 2005, it is attended by the best teams of the continental confederations. Prior to that, from 1960 to 2004, the best club in the world was determined by matches between the strongest teams in Europe and South America (Intercontinental Cup).
