In case of successful tests, the “robot referee” will be used in the matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It is reported by the Daily Mail.

Replace all human arbitrators with robots. This decision was made in FIFA and is already testing a new technology that captures the movements of players, the position of the ball and violations of the rules.

The player's limb tracking system can make automatic decisions about offside in half a second thanks to special cameras that are attached to different parts of the stadium roof. To create an animated skeleton of the players, 12 cameras will be used - with their help it will be possible to build projections from 29 points.

After that, the information will be instantly sent to the referees of the VAR system, who, in turn, will be able to transfer it to the chief referee of the match. For the first time, the technology is used in the semi-final match of the club world championship with the participation of London's Chelsea. In addition, they plan to test it in the match for third place and the final of this tournament.

“We strongly believe that access to this new source of data can have a positive impact on football,” said FIFA Director of Technology and Innovation Johannes Holzmuller.
