A rare three-kilometer patch of pristine coral has been found at a depth of 35 meters off the coast of Tahiti in the South Pacific. Scientists from the French National Center for Scientific Research noted, that the reef looks absolutely healthy, with no signs of discoloration, which means that it has not been exposed to external irritants and various pollution.

Although the depth has protected the new discovered reef from the effects of higher temperatures, it is still at risk. According to a report published in 2020, overfishing and pollution have killed 14% of corals in just 10 years, and the warming oceans caused by the climate crisis, have caused the most delicate of them to bleach, announced the euronews.
