President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov extended the deadline for commissioning facilities being built by the Turkmen construction companies in the new Administrative Center of Akhal Velayat until December 2022. The head of state signed the relevant Decree today, the Watan news program of the Turkmen television reported.
Buildings and facilities in Akhal City were to be commissioned in September 2021.
According to the new document, the state will conclude additional agreements with contractors to complete the remaining outstanding construction work.
As the Turkmen leader said at a working meeting today, 62 local individual enterprises, as well as 5 state-owned enterprises, are involved in the construction of facilities within the giant Akhal City project.
It will be remembered that at present the Administrative Center of Akhal Velayat is the city of Annau, located 10 kilometers east of Ashgabat. In October 2018, President of Turkmenistan announced the intention to build a new center of the region, that will not be below Ashgabat. The construction of the country's first "smart city" worth 1.5 billion US dollars started in April 2019. It is being erected in the very heart of the country, 30 kilometers southwest of the Turkmen capital.
The new Administrative Center will have "smart" residential buildings controlled via a smartphone, squares with a flagpole, buildings of the Mayor's office and other institutions, as well as the Rukhyet Palace, the buildings of the Velayat Department of Education and Culture, a Drama Theater, library, a clinic for infectious diseases, a museum, the Higher International School of Horse Breeding and the Research and Production Center for Horse Breeding.
In October 2021, the head of state announced that the first stage of construction of the Administrative Center "Akhal" should be completed in December 2022 by the Day of Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
Earlier, we reported that a Special Commission was established in Turkmenistan to complete the construction of Akhal City worth $1.5 billion.
