Briefing on the results of the XV ECO Summit was held in Ashgabat

A briefing dedicated to the results of the 15th Summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation was held in the capital's Garagum hotel, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

Heads and employees of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations operating in Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of local and foreign media took part in the briefing.

The event began with the ECO Secretary General, Mr. Husrav Noziri, presenting a special ECO award in the category “History, Culture, Literature and Fine Arts” to the chief researcher of the Mahtumkuli Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Yazklych Orazklychev.

The briefing was opened by the head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov. During the briefing, the ECO Secretary General, the heads of the diplomatic missions of the ECO member states in Turkmenistan, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the European Union to Turkmenistan and the Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat also spoke.

It was noted that within the framework of the Summit, an agreement was reached on a significant acceleration of the pace of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, in order to turn the ECO into a dynamic and efficient regional economic structure, including priority attention was paid to cooperation in transport and energy.

It was noted that the agreements and decisions reached at the 15th Ashgabat Summit can give a powerful innovative and high-quality impetus to cooperation between the ECO countries, give it consistency and specificity, create prerequisites for accelerated integration both in the ECO space and in the context of interregional and continental processes.

The briefing participants also noted that the adoption of the final “Ashgabat Consensus for Action” will promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the ECO member states, ensure general security and stability, and will also give impetus to the economic development of the countries of the region, the source said.
