A new Law of Turkmenistan "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in Turkmenistan" was published today.
The law defines the legal status of foreign citizens, stateless persons in Turkmenistan, and also regulates relations arising in connection with their stay (residence) and their labor, business or other activities in the territory of Turkmenistan.
The Law prescribes, inter alia, such provisions as "Fundamental rights, freedoms and obligations of foreign citizens in Turkmenistan" and "Procedure for determining the status of a stateless person."
The chapter "Fundamental rights, freedoms and obligations of foreign citizens in Turkmenistan" includes, for example, such articles as:
- labor, business and other income-generating activities;
- recreation;
- health protection;
- social Security;
- the right to a home;
- property and personal non-property rights;
- getting an education;
- use of cultural achievements;
- participation in public associations;
- freedom of religion;
- marriage and family relations;
- inviolability of the person and home and others.

The law comes into force on the day of its official publication. From the date of entry into force of this Law, the Law of Turkmenistan "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in Turkmenistan" of March 26, 2011 (Vedomosti of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, 2011, No. 1, Article 13) shall be declared invalid.
