A week-long training course on preventing and countering violent extremism within the framework of the country component of the global project “Strengthening Resilience to Violent Extremism in Asia (STRIVE Asia)” has been completed in Turkmenistan. Joint partnership between the EU and the UN”.

The training, organized by UNDP, was developed by the “Hedaya” International Center of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism.

The training was conducted by UNDP national trainers in 6 pilot cities: Ashgabat, Dashoguz, Mary, Tejen, Turkmenabat and Turkmenbashi.

The aim of the training was to familiarize with best practices for preventing and countering violent extremism, as well as to assist in the development of national PVE programs. The training materials included presentations, a participant manual, handouts and videos to provide an interactive format for the event.

The trainings were attended by specialists from the employment departments of the population of Turkmenistan, hyakimliks, the police department, the Youth Organization and the Women's Union of Turkmenistan. As noted in the UNDP press release, all training participants are members of advisory groups that were formed in each pilot city within the framework of the project.

The participants received the necessary knowledge and skills in order to conduct the same trainings for other representatives of the relevant government agencies and public organizations.

The specific goal of the country component of the global STRIVE Asia project is to ensure that key government agencies and civil society organizations are better equipped to participate in the achievement of PVE goals.

The key national partner of the project is the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan.
