Representatives of Turkmenistan took part in the online presentation of the results of the hazard assessment of river and rain floods in the Central Asia region. "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" reports.

The data and information generated by the assessment will contribute to national decision-making processes for risk reduction and urban planning.

The event was organized as part of the Strengthening Financial Resilience and Accelerating Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Asia program aimed at improving financial resilience and risk-based investment planning to build resilience to natural disasters and climate change in Central Asia.

The European Union funded program has three components:

  1. Quantification of regional risks and capacity building in the field of risk identification;
  2. building awareness and capacity for financial resilience to disasters at the national and regional levels;
  3. Mapping disaster risk exposure to improve analysis, disaster risk management and awareness raising.

The program makes a significant contribution to the achievement of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, to which Turkmenistan has joined.

The Strengthening Financial Resilience and Accelerating Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Asia program works in collaboration with the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction in Almaty, established in 2016 by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
