Olives began to be harvested in Garrygala and Etrek, near the Caspian Sea. Turkmenistan is the only state in Central Asia where olive groves are grown on an industrial scale.

The first fruits of the "overseas" plant have already ripened in the west of the country, where the subtropical climate with a constant temperature of 15-20 degrees is ideal for Mediterranean plants and the olive tree in particular. Almond trees, walnuts, pistachios, and pomegranates also grow beautifully here.

More than a century ago, the first seedlings of the olive tree were brought from the other side of the Caspian Sea - Azerbaijan. So, in Turkmenistan there was an olive - black and green.

“Although the olive tree is very hardy, in order for it to produce more fruits, it is necessary to comply with agrotechnical requirements: watering in time, fertilizing with fertilizers. Olives should not be eaten immediately after harvest. First, they need to be soaked in a special solution for a certain time, and then rinsed in clean water”, says a researcher at the Research and Production Center. Magtymguly Rakhym Orazdurdyev.
