Turkmenistan took part in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia for the first time

Today, the delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Vice - Premier Rashid Meredov, took part in the 6th meeting of foreign ministers of the countries - members of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in the capital of Kazakhstan, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The event opened with a meeting of its participants with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the plenary session, the increasing global role of the conference in developing interaction in the Asian region, increasing the level of security and strengthening confidence-building measures between states was noted. The initiative to transform the CICA into a full-fledged international organization while preserving the fundamental principles of its functioning was supported.

In his speech, R. Meredov emphasized the importance of granting Turkmenistan the status of an observer country in the CICA and noted that our country shares the principles and tasks on which the work of the CICA is built, namely, the achievement of peace and security on the Asian continent through political dialogue and cooperation in strengthening general regional and international security.

The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry invited the member states of the Meeting to take an active part in the International Conference “Politics of Peace and Trust - the Basis of International Security, Stability and Development”, which will be held in Ashgabat on December 12 this year.

On the sidelines of the event, R. Meredov held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India Subrahmaniyam Jaishankar, the Minister of Tourism of Israel Yoel Razvozov and others.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia was established in 1992. The main goal of the CICA is to strengthen cooperation by developing multilateral approaches to ensuring peace, security and stability in Asia. The meeting brings together 27 countries. Nine countries (including Turkmenistan) and five international organizations have observer status.
