In Ashgabat, FAO project participants considered topical issues of natural resource management

The meeting of the working group of the participants of the regional project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) “Integrated management of natural resources in the dry and saline areas of Central Asia and Turkey” was held at the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Wildlife, according to the website of the State Publishing Service.

The project in Turkmenistan is being implemented with the coordination participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection. The goal of the project is to restore the fertility of agricultural lands, increase the productivity of natural pastures in two different agroecological regions of the country - mountains, desert and river oasis. It is planned to introduce advanced methods of desalinization of irrigated soils, increase their yield, return to circulation the degraded pastures of the Karakum desert by overseeding the seeds of fruitful psammophytes - white and black saxaul, kandym, cherkez, astragalus and other woody plants.

Responsible employees of structural divisions of the agroecological department, including “Turkmengidromet”, as well as specialists of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the State Committee for Water Resources, joined the discussion of topical issues.

The meeting discussed such important topics as increasing the yield of land without harm to the environment in pilot territories, improving the irrigated lands of the northern region, training farmers.
