Today, the state Committee of water management of Turkmenistan received equipment for automated water flow measurement (14 units), which will be installed at fourteen points along the Murgab river in the Mary province.

This action was held within the Framework of the project of the regional environmental center for Central Asia (CAREC) "Water, Education and Cooperation" (Smart Waters), which is funded by the US Agency for international development (USAID), according to a press release from the US Embassy in Ashgabat.

The automated water accounting system is designed to provide early flood warning and will play a significant role in protecting local communities from natural river flooding. The system allows real-time monitoring of water levels at various points along the Murgab river and monitoring irrigation runoff, which will ultimately help predict water levels and plan water management accordingly.

The project" Water, Education and Cooperation " (Smart Waters) is designed to help the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan to deepen technical skills in water management, promote dialogue between communities on cross-border issues, and create a staff of professionals capable of managing shared water resources.
