Turkmenistan and the UN discussed the implementation of the plan to ensure readiness to counter acute infectious diseases

The implementation of the plan to ensure Turkmenistan's preparedness and response to an acute infectious disease was discussed at an online meeting with UN representatives held today.

According to the State news Agency of Turkmenistan, the teleconference was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, foreign Affairs, health, Finance, legal and social protection of population, education, agriculture and environmental protection, immigration and customs services, transport departments and the media, Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs, public organizations of Turkmenistan.

The UN was represented by the heads and experts accredited in the country from various agencies of this major international organization. These include the United Nations Development Program, UNICEF, who, the United Nations population and development Fund, and the Regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia.

Representatives of the United Nations Office on drugs and crime, the Office of the high Commissioner for human rights in Central Asia and the Regional office of the Office of the high Commissioner for refugees in Central Asia, the regional office of UNESCO and the International organization for migration, and other international partners also joined the exchange of views.

In her welcoming speech, UN Resident coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova stressed that the national Plan under discussion meets common international standards and was approved at the highest level by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Who representative in Turkmenistan Paulina Karvovska noted that the current meeting provides an opportunity not only to analyze the implementation of the Plan, but also to mobilize available resources for its further successful implementation.

During the presentation of the report on results of conducted work in the main areas of these plans was the emphasis on the outcomes held on August 7 call of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Director General of the world health organization and the initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader and aimed at combating the spread of infectious diseases.

Today's meeting discussed support from UN agencies and partners in the field of counteraction preparedness and response of Turkmenistan to acute infectious diseases, as well as joint activities planned for the near future. Among them is the second seminar for journalists on communications in emergency situations.
