During a meeting held in the format of a videoconference with the Director General of the world health organization Tedros Gebreyesus, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reviewed the activities carried out in the country to counter COVID-19.

Currently, all of humanity is facing a new universal threat – a pandemic of coronavirus infection. Today, based on our experience gained over a quarter of a century, we have taken comprehensive measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, the head of state said.

It was noted that a lot of work was done in this direction in Turkmenistan in May-July.

For example, on May 22, a Plan was approved at the state level to ensure Turkmenistan's readiness to counteract an acute infectious disease and take rapid response measures. The document defines concrete steps to further strengthen the material and technical base necessary for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, their treatment and prevention.

Examples include new quarantine centers that have been put into operation, and individual medical facilities that have been redesigned to treat people with similar signs of acute infectious disease. In accordance with the above-mentioned Plan, the necessary medicines and medical equipment are purchased, the head of state said.

Currently, a General medical examination of the population is being conducted, and effective measures are being taken to increase human immunity.

Turkmenistan, having brought its activities in this area into full compliance with the work carried out by the world community, has launched a number of important initiatives aimed at uniting international efforts in the fight against coronavirus.

In particular, the head of state noted, it was proposed to create all the necessary conditions for enhancing cooperation through scientific diplomacy, for regular exchange of views of scientists-doctors, experts and specialists in other specialized fields of science. It was emphasized that the main goal of this initiative is to establish multilateral relations aimed at thoroughly studying the origin of a new type of coronavirus by specialists, the manifestations of diseases caused by this infection, as well as methods of their treatment and prevention.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that the country is ready to work together in this and other areas with the world health organization and other interested parties.

The head of WHO highly appreciated the strategy developed by the Turkmen leader to improve the national system of public health protection and the desire to actively interact with all interested partners.

Tedros Gebreyesus also said that during the WHO mission that recently visited Turkmenistan, experts on the ground got acquainted with the preventive measures taken and gave a positive assessment of the results of the large-scale work being carried out here.

In conclusion, the Turkmen leader and the head of WHO expressed their readiness to expand cooperation and join forces in the fight against new threats and challenges to public health, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
