The newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" published figures and facts related to environmental activities in Turkmenistan, which we also share with our readers.
There are 9 nature reserves, 16 nature reserves and 17 natural monuments in the country, which occupy a leading place in the protection of biodiversity. More than 2/3 of the country's total biodiversity is concentrated in specially protected areas.
Operating network of specially protected natural territories (SPNA) Turkmenistan as of December 1, 2018 occupies 2,152,360 hectares, of which are:
- reserves 42.98 %;
- reserves — 49.73 %;
- security zones — 5.32 %;
- natural monuments-0.09 %;
- environmental corridors-1.85 %;
As of January 1, 2020, Turkmenistan has signed and ratified 26 international environmental treaties and conventions.
In the field of integrated management of natural resources, Turkmenistan has adopted:
- National strategy on climate change (new version);
- National action Program to combat desertification in Turkmenistan;
- Strategy and action plan for the conservation of Turkmenistan's biodiversity;
- Program of works on rational use of water resources and increasing the capacity of the Karakum river in 2015-2020;
- National Forest program of Turkmenistan until 2020.
Issues of sustainable land management and integrated water resources management are reflected in the National programs of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan.
In the field of environmental protection in Turkmenistan, as of 01.01.2020, 32 normative legal acts (laws and codes), 27 by-laws and 11 departmental normative legal acts have been adopted.
