In Turkmenistan, the Association "Türkmen alabaý itleri" ("Turkmen Alabai") has been established to preserve the purity and development of this breed of dog using methods of national selection and modern achievements of world science, accounting for “Alabai” on a systematic basis, organizing exhibitions and other events. It was established today at a meeting at the Turkmen agricultural University, which was attended by heads and representatives of a number of ministries, public organizations, teaching staff of this higher educational institution, experienced dog handlers and other specialists, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

At the meeting, the Charter of the new public organization was adopted, and elections were held for the head, members of the administration and the control and audit Commission of the Association.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov was nominated as the head of the Association and was unanimously elected to this position.

We remind that in September last year, as the hyakim of the Akhal velayat, Serdar Berdimuhamedov opened the first “Alabai” kennel in the country in etrap Ak Bugday, where breeding and breeding work is carried out, as well as training and preparation of puppies of this breed.

Speaking to the participants of the meeting, Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the trust and spoke about his vision of the upcoming work of the new Association, its goals and plans. Special attention was paid by the head of state to preserving and increasing the number of “Alabai” and popularizing this breed of dog in the world.

As noted, “Alabai” is one of the oldest breeds of dogs, and this is confirmed by numerous archaeological finds made during the excavations of such famous historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan as Gonurdepe, Altyndepe, Nisa, etc. Recently, in Dandanakan historical settlement located 60 kilometers from the Ancient Merv – a statuette depicting a dog with characteristic features of the breed of Turkmen “Alabai” was discovered.

As loyal companions of the Turkmens for thousands of years, not just assistants, guards and protectors, but friends and colleagues, the “Alabai” showed exemplary courage and selfless devotion. Thanks to these qualities, these four-legged human allies have taken an honorable place in the culture, art, literature and folklore of the Turkmen people.

In recent years, interest in “Alabai” has significantly increased in the world. The increasing popularity of “Alabai” is due to its spectacular appearance – it is a large and physically powerful dog, features of character and behavior – they are reliable, friendly and obedient. These dogs have deservedly taken a leading position among guard breeds in many countries.
