The presidents of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran discussed cooperation in countering the COVID-19 pandemic over the phone

Today, at the initiative of the Iranian side, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani had a telephone conversation.

The heads of the two neighboring States, warmly greeting each other, expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss priority issues of Turkmen-Iranian relations, which are always friendly, in a personal conversation, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Hassan Rouhani exchanged mutual congratulations on the occasion of the Holy month of Oraza, addressing wishes of peace, well-being and prosperity to the peoples of both countries.

During the telephone conversation, the interlocutors highly appreciated the interstate dialogue, which is based on the traditions of good-neighborliness and historical and cultural ties that unite the two peoples.

As noted, today the Turkmen-Iranian relations are actively developing across the entire spectrum – in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres. At the same time, Turkmenistan and Iran effectively cooperate within the framework of authoritative international organizations, including the UN and its specialized structures.

During the conversation, the two heads of state also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international issues. In this context, the topic of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), which has spread over a wide geographical area and has a negative impact on the lives of many States and peoples, was raised. As noted, the spread of a new type of coronavirus infection has become global and has caused crisis situations in the world.

Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed, fully supports the efforts of the world community in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Our country supports the intensification of international cooperation aimed at developing coordinated steps to successfully counter this dangerous threat and based on such enduring universal values as humanism, mutual support and solidarity.

In this regard, the Turkmen leader expressed his conviction that the consolidation of efforts of all States of the world will help to achieve the desired results in solving this important task.

Thanking his Iranian counterpart for the great attention paid to bilateral cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the mutually beneficial interstate partnership will continue to be strengthened for the common good.

Confirming the commitment of the Islamic Republic of Iran to traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan, President Hassan Rouhani expressed support for the initiatives of the Turkmen leader to increase regional and international cooperation aimed at ensuring universal well-being and developing balanced solutions to current problems.

In conclusion, noting the presence of a solid potential for further dynamic development of fruitful Turkmen-Iranian cooperation, the two heads of neighboring States once again congratulated each other with the sacred Oraza – the blessed month good deeds of mercy and humanity, conveying the best wishes to the brotherly peoples of both countries and the entire Muslim Ummah.
