On February 2, the United States Embassy in Turkmenistan will kick off its Annual Winter Film Screenings with three American musical films. Screenings of Tangled, La La Land, and Aladdin will take place at theaters in Ashgabat, Turkmenabat, Mary, Dashoguz, Balkanabat, and Turkmenbashi. US Embassy personnel will introduce the films and greet visitors before and after the events.
The film Tangled retells the German fairy tale Rapunzel with a modern twist; the film received a Grammy Award and was nominated for an Academy Award for best song. The film Aladdin grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, one of the most popular films of 2019, and stars international superstar Will Smith. La La Land, a musical love letter to Los Angeles and the film industry, received a record 14 Academy Award nominations, winning six awards.
Films will be shown in Russian with English subtitles. The screenings are free and open to public. No advance tickets or reservations are required, but entry will be limited to the capacity of the halls. The Winter Film Screenings will run from February 2 to 16 according to the following schedule.
