Gazprom and Turkmengaz are preparing a new contract, which will enter into force from the third quarter 2019 year

A new medium-term contract for the purchase of Turkmen gas by Gazprom may enter into force from the third quarter of this year. This was announced in Ashgabat by the first deputy head of the Russian Government’s Office, Sergei Prikhodko, the Vestnik Kavkaza reports, citing TASS.

Turkmenistan on April 15, 2019 resumed natural gas exports to Russia after a three-year hiatus. Gazprom plans to purchase up to 1.155 billion cubic meters by June 30, 2019. The cost of the new transaction is not known.

“A medium-term gas purchase and sale contract is being coordinated with the Turkmengaz”, Prikhodko said, stressing that the document “is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2019”.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Anatoly Yanovsky said that Russia and Turkmenistan are discussing the possibility of concluding a new five-year contract for the purchase of Turkmen gas, supplies for which can start from the second half of 2019.
