Construction of the new Kerki Airport will begin in May 2019

The construction of the new airport in Kerki, Lebap region, will begin in May 2019. The preparatory work for the beginning of the airport construction has entered the final stage, the Golden Age Internet Newspaper reports.

According to the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the construction of a new air harbor in the Eastern region of the country was entrusted to Gundogdy Individual Enterprise, which has experience in commissioning of infrastructure facilities of civil aviation. In February 2018, the company successfully completed the construction of the Turkmenabat International Airport.  

According to the project, it is planned to build a passenger terminal with a capacity of 100 passengers per hour on an area of more than 200 hectares. The builders will create optimal comfortable conditions for waiting, quick check-in and boarding. At their service – waiting room for 120 seats, ticket offices, medical center, luggage storage, post office, international point of communication, cafeteria, CIP-room, mother and child room, dining room for 30 seats.  In the structure of the airfield complex will operate repair and technical, refueling services, warehouses, fire station, offices for cargo service.

The runway of the airport of the city of Kerki, 2700 meters long and 60 meters wide, will be equipped with ground facilities for flights in the first category of ICAO – lighting, meteorological, air navigation and radio equipment from the French company Thales, which will allow to receive and send aircraft around the clock.

Commissioning of the new civil aviation facility is scheduled for April 2021. The commissioning of the new airport will contribute to the dynamic development of the Lebap region, the activation of trade and economic, as well as humanitarian ties and tourism.
