Madrid football club “Real” is planning to change the name of its home stadium, the “Santiago Bernabeu”, Marca reports.
According to the publication, the stadium's name is planned to be shortened to “Bernabeu”. The stadium's website has already changed its name, as have the arena's social networks. The shortened name is also noticeable on the gifts that the club presented at Christmas meetings.
The stadium was built in 1947 and later named after “Real” president Santiago Bernabeu, during whose tenure the club won six European Cups. The arena's capacity is over 81 thousand people.
The stadium is also one of 11 that will host the 2030 World Cup. The tournament will be hosted by six countries - Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
Earlier, the media reported that the final match of the championship will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu.
