On March 30, 2026, the first General Assembly of the World Data Organization (WDO) was held in Beijing, marking its official establishment, according to Xinhua News Agency.

During the meeting, participants reviewed and adopted the organization's charter and elected the first board and supervisory board members. The newly elected board held its inaugural meeting, where it elected the VOD's leadership and approved its key regulations and governing documents.

According to the preparatory committee, the creation of the organization is aimed at promoting global practices in the field of data development and management, ensuring their exchange and use in accordance with the principles of compliance, security, and reliability, as well as supporting the development of the global digital economy.

The Assembly was held under the theme "Creating a Platform for Data Collaboration and Sharing Digital Development Opportunities." Members included businesses, universities, think tanks, international organizations, financial institutions, and other entities from the global data sector.

The event was attended by approximately 500 people, including representatives of the organization's members, Chinese and foreign scientists and technologists, government officials, and heads of international organizations.
