Thailand coach: "Turkmenistan is a strong team. It will be a tense match”

The upcoming match against Turkmenistan will be a real test for the Thai national team, but the team is ready for the challenge, said Thailand head coach Anthony Hudson at a press conference.

"Turkmenistan is a very strong team, playing aggressively and with high physical intensity. This match will definitely be difficult and tense," Hudson said.

According to the coach, the staff studied the opponent in detail. "We analyzed Turkmenistan's last 10 or 11 matches. I'm confident that the staff and players have a good understanding of how they play, their strengths and weaknesses," he noted. However, Hudson acknowledged that it's impossible to fully predict the opponent's moves. "On match day, the opponent may change their approach, but I've prepared backup plans with all the players," the coach added.

Hudson also emphasized the special significance of the upcoming game and called on fans to support the team in the stands. "This match is undoubtedly crucial – it will determine our team's fate in the tournament. As a coaching staff and players, we intend to rise to this challenge and give the fans something exciting," he said. The coach emphasized the role of the home crowd: "Playing at home is a huge advantage. The fans play a vital role in supporting and inspiring us."

Speaking about the team's preparation, Hudson expressed satisfaction with its progress. "The players are responding very well to training. With proper preparation and a strong squad, everyone feels confident. The outlook is very encouraging," he concluded.

The final Group D match between Thailand and Turkmenistan will take place in Bangkok on Tuesday, March 31, and kicks off at 17:30 Ashgabat time.

Heading into the final round, Turkmenistan leads the group standings, while Thailand trails behind on tiebreakers. The hosts need only a win to advance to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals in Saudi Arabia.
