The 6th Open International Mathematical Olympiad kicked off in Ashgabat

On March 24, the 6th Open International Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (OMOUS-2026) opened at the International University for Humanities and Development in Ashgabat. The competition brought together approximately 650 participants: approximately 400 students from Turkmen universities and nearly 250 from abroad.

The Turkmen participants were joined by students from universities in Russia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and the UAE. The Olympiad is being held in Turkmen and English and will last two days.

The competition program includes two formats: an individual competition, divided into groups A and B depending on specialization, and a team competition, in which teams of four compete. Teams may include students from different universities.

The Olympiad's problems were proposed by the participating universities themselves: each university submitted five problems with solutions no later than 20 days before the start. A mandatory requirement was that the problems must not have published solutions in any publications. The jury was composed of representatives of the academic community in Turkmenistan and abroad.

The Olympiad has been held since 2021 and attracts more and more international participants each year. In addition to the mathematical competitions, the program traditionally includes opportunities for foreign guests to explore the historical and cultural landmarks of the Turkmen capital.
