The grand opening of the China-Central Asian Publishing Center took place in Almaty at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. According to Xinhua News Agency, the institution became the first Chinese publishing center opened in Central Asia.
The center was founded on a partnership basis: its founders were the Jiaotong Publishing House of Xi'an University, one of China's leading technical universities, and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The new center's key areas of work include the publication of educational literature, joint translation of classical works from China and other countries in the region, the development of digital publishing platforms, as well as cooperation in copyright protection, academic exchanges, and the training of specialized specialists.
At the opening ceremony, Su Fanxiu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty, delivered a speech, emphasizing the importance of the new institution for the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between China and countries in the region.
The opening of the center fits into the context of the consistent expansion of Chinese-Central Asian cooperation. Currently, KazNU has 65 partnerships with universities and organizations in China, and the number of Chinese students at the university stands at 1440. Furthermore, KazNU already operates a Confucius Institute, promoting the study of Chinese language and culture.
The new publishing center opens amidst intensifying bilateral relations: in June 2025, Kazakhstan hosted the second China-Central Asia Summit, and the opening of joint cultural centers and the development of humanitarian cooperation were named among the priority areas of interaction between the region's countries and China.
