The world's longest urban escalator has opened in China

An escalator complex, recognized as the longest urban escalator in the world, has opened in the Chinese city of Chongqing. The system's total length is 905 meters, with a vertical drop of 242 meters—comparable to the height of an 80-story skyscraper, according to zakon.kz.

The facility was designed to address transportation needs in the city's mountainous terrain. Before its opening, the walk to the top of the hill took about an hour; now, the journey time has been reduced to 20 minutes.

The complex is a multi-level infrastructure integrated into the mountain landscape. It includes 21 standard escalators, 8 elevators, 4 moving walkways, and a network of pedestrian bridges.

A fee is charged for travel. During the trial period, the fare is 3 yuan. Local authorities say the fare may be revised after the trial period.
