Former two-time UFC champion Jon Jones issued a public statement on the social media platform X, disputing UFC president Dana White's claims regarding his exclusion from the UFC Freedom 250 card. The event is scheduled for June 14 and will take place on the White House lawn.
At the UFC 326 post-fight press conference, White stated that Jones was "never even remotely considered" for the historic event, citing the fighter's health issues, including arthritis and a need for a hip replacement.
In response, Jones insisted that negotiations between his team and the UFC were indeed ongoing. He said he was prepared to lower his initial asking price, but was not satisfied with the promotion's counteroffer. Jones also revealed that he had undergone stem cell treatment and was preparing to begin training camp.
The fighter expressed his disappointment over public statements about his retirement, noting his many years of contribution to the organization. In closing, Jones asked the UFC to terminate his contract if the promotion truly considers his career over.
Previously, Jones was reportedly set to face Alex Pereira at the same event. The Brazilian would ultimately face Cyril Gane for the interim heavyweight title. The main event of the evening is scheduled to be a fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje.
