Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry: Baku is negotiating a visa-free regime with dozens of countries, taking into account migration risks

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is negotiating with dozens of countries on the abolition or simplification of visa requirements. This was reported by media.az, citing a statement by Emil Safarov, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Department, during public hearings in the country's parliament, the Milli Majlis.

According to the diplomat, negotiations are conducted exclusively with friendly states and strategic partners of Azerbaijan, with due consideration of national security issues and migration risks.

Safarov recalled that Azerbaijan uses several simplified entry procedures: a fully visa-free regime, the ASAN Visa electronic visa system, and temporary procedures for major international events. Specifically, during the COP29 climate summit, more than 36,000 participants received simplified visas.

On February 15, 2026, Azerbaijan unilaterally introduced a temporary visa-free regime with four countries, primarily from the Arab region. The initiative was implemented based on proposals from the country's State Tourism Agency.

The Foreign Ministry representative also stated that the list of countries eligible for simplified entry may be expanded in the near future. According to him, the main goal of the current policy is to ensure a significant increase in tourist flow without creating migration risks for the country.
