Turkmenistan celebrated International Mother Language Day

On February 19, a scientific and practical conference dedicated to International Mother Language Day was held at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The event was organized jointly with the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

The speakers examined in detail the history and significance of International Mother Language Day and the role of the Turkmen language in modern society.

During the conference, members of the Altyn Miras (Golden Heritage) cultural center performed songs and held artistic readings.

International Mother Language Day was established by the 30th session of the UNESCO General Conference in November 1999 and has since been celebrated annually worldwide on February 21.

In dynamically developing Turkmenistan, this international holiday is also celebrated at a high level. The Turkmen language, which traces its historical origins back to the Oguz Khan era, is rightfully considered one of the richest of the Turkic languages.
