The Turkmenistan U-18 national hockey team lost to Iceland 1-5 (0-3, 1-2, 0-0) in the second round of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, Division III, Group B, which is taking place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rovshen Archayev scored the lone goal for the Turkmen team.
The tournament features six teams divided into two groups. group “A” includes Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and South Africa, while group “B” includes Thailand, Turkmenistan, and Luxembourg.
After two rounds, Iceland leads group “A” with 6 points. Bosnia and Herzegovina is second (2 points), and South Africa is third with no points. In group “B”, Thailand leads with 6 points, Turkmenistan is second with 3 points, and Luxembourg is third with 1 point.
According to the regulations, each team will play three matches against opponents from the opposite group. The winner of group “A” will face the second-placed team from group “B” in the semifinals, and the leader of group “B” will play the runner-up from group “A”.
In the final round of the group stage on February 16, the Turkmenistan national team will play Bosnia and Herzegovina. The match kicks off at 23:30 Ashgabat time.
As a reminder, the Turkmen team defeated South Africa 4-3 in the first round.
