The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted the dynamic development of relations with Japan

Turkmen-Japanese cooperation has demonstrated dynamic progress in the political, trade, economic, and cultural spheres in recent years. This was stated by Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a reception to mark Emperor Naruhito's birthday.

"Speaking about Turkmen-Japanese cooperation, I would like to emphasize the dynamic progress in the political, trade, economic, and cultural spheres in recent years," said the head of the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the countries have achieved significant results in expanding their partnership based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. The minister emphasized the importance of open, friendly, and constructive dialogue during the meetings between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Emperor Naruhito, and the prime ministers in Tokyo in April and December 2025.

Meredov recalled that last year, Japan hosted important events attended by the President of Turkmenistan, including the opening ceremony of EXPO 2025 in Osaka. "The Turkmenistan pavilion was among the top three most visited, welcoming over two million guests," the minister noted.

He praised the contribution of Japanese companies, financial institutions, and agencies to Turkmenistan's economic development. The minister named Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Kawasaki, Sumitomo, and Toyota among his key partners.

Meredov noted the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. He noted that Japanese is currently taught at six universities and 12 schools in Turkmenistan. "Currently, more than 15 thousand Turkmen citizens are studying Japanese," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
