According to meteorological services, unusually warm weather for February is expected across much of Turkmenistan in the coming days. After a cloudy and rainy start to the week, temperatures will rise sharply and significantly exceed seasonal averages by the weekend.
Ashgabat and Ahal velayat. In the capital today, February 13, the daytime temperature is forecast to be +12°C (53°F) with cloudy skies. However, on Saturday, February 14, the temperature will warm up to +21°C (70°F), and on Sunday, February 15, it is expected to reach +21°C (70°F), with possible brief precipitation and winds up to 6–9 m/s (6–9 m/s). Warming is expected to continue next week: according to current forecasts, daytime temperatures on February 17th will be around 22°C, on February 18th – up to 25°C, and on February 19th – a maximum of around 27°C is possible. (Rambler) These figures significantly exceed the climatic norm for the second half of February in the region.
Balkan velayat. In the western part of the country, in the Balkanabat region, the forecast for the coming weekend also indicates continued warmth, with temperatures expected to range from 15°C to 20°C, with no significant precipitation.
Mary and Lebap velayats. Forecasters are also recording a warming trend in the eastern and southeastern regions of the country—in Mary and Turkmenabat. Daytime temperatures in these regions are forecast to reach 18–22°C by the end of the week.
Dashoguz velayats. In the north of the country, warming will be somewhat less pronounced, but here too, positive daytime temperatures are expected to exceed the long-term average for this period.
Forecasters note that the main factor behind the abnormal warming is the influx of warm air masses from the south and southwest, typical of the transitional season. Winds are generally light—2–4 m/s—creating comfortable conditions for outdoor activities. In Ashgabat, temperatures are forecast to reach 23°C this weekend, with light rain possible, and winds up to 6 m/s with gusts up to 13 m/s. (Yandex)
At the same time, experts warn that after a warm period in late February, cooler weather with precipitation is possible, characteristic of the unstable February-March atmospheric circulation over the region.
