Turkmenistan's Nazli Hudaykulieva and Sulgun Ishankulieva won gold medals at the ITF Asia 14&U Development Championship in Manama, according to the online newspaper "Golden Age."
Hudaykulieva won the singles match, defeating Jordan's Ayasofia Ghokashaw 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the final. In the doubles match, she and 12-year-old Ishankulieva defeated the Lebanese duo of Maria El Hachache and Mariam Kamareddine 6-3, 7-5.
Athletes from 13 countries of Western and Central Asia took part in the competition, including Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, the UAE, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Both tennis players previously performed successfully at the Category A international tournament in Isa Town, where Ishankulieva won silver in doubles alongside Jordanian Gokashaw, and Khudaikulieva finished in the top four in singles.
Both athletes are members of the Turkmenistan national team. Nazli Hudaykulieva trains under the guidance of Meylis Orazmuhammedov and Yuri Rogussky.
Sulgun Ishankulieva is a graduate of the “Jahan” Creative Center, trains with Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Jennet Hallyeva, and is honing her skills with the national team under the guidance of head coach Yuri Rogussky.
