Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry held a briefing on cooperation with the FAO

A briefing on cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by the heads and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in the country, as well as media representatives.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova and FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Viorel Gutu, who participated in the briefing via videoconference, delivered presentations.

Participants were briefed on the current status and prospects of Turkmenistan's cooperation with FAO, key achievements, and priority areas for future collaboration.

Particular attention was paid to the official visit of FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu to Ashgabat in January 2026, which confirmed the strategic nature of the partnership. The significance of the signing of the Host Country Agreement, which created the legal basis for the opening of an FAO representative office in Turkmenistan, was noted.

The successful completion of the Country Cooperation Framework for 2021-2025 was celebrated. Under this framework, projects were implemented in the areas of digitalization of agriculture, enhancing the sustainability of food systems, rational use of land and water resources, the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies, and support for farms. Work is currently underway on a new Country Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030.
