The President of Turkmenistan received the FAO Director-General

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

The FAO chief expressed his appreciation for the meeting and emphasized the organization's continued interest in collaborating with Turkmenistan, noting the high level of reforms being implemented in the country's agricultural sector. Qu Dongyu also acknowledged the importance of Turkmenistan's international initiatives to ensure environmental well-being.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the regional conference on food security in the context of climate change, which the guest will attend during his visit, will serve as an important platform for exchanging views on pressing issues. The annual forum held in Turkmenistan is a result of active cooperation with the FAO and an example of the country's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The head of state expressed confidence that the conference will strengthen international cooperation and contribute to addressing global food security challenges in the context of climate change. He emphasized that cooperation with reputable international organizations, primarily the UN and its specialized agencies, including the FAO, is a key focus of Turkmenistan's foreign policy.

As noted at the meeting, Turkmenistan contributes to strengthening global food security, sustainable management of natural resources, and supports global community initiatives aimed at addressing climate and environmental issues. The country is improving its agricultural sector management system, focusing on the rational use of land and water resources. Digital technologies are being introduced into production to improve the quality and increase the volume of agricultural produce.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that a number of projects aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector are currently being implemented. With FAO support, Turkmenistan has successfully implemented projects to increase agricultural productivity and improve land management, and introduced modern technologies. National and regional crop protection projects, as well as initiatives under the Green Climate Fund and the One Health approach, are also underway.

The head of state confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to further expand cooperation with FAO.
