Turkmenistan is considering building a high-voltage power line to the border with Kazakhstan to support exports and maintain the neighboring country's energy balance. This was announced by Turkmenistan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Nurmammet Nurmammedov, at the SPECA Economic Forum in Ashgabat.
"We express our readiness to maintain the energy balance in the Republic of Kazakhstan and are considering the possibility of constructing a high-voltage power line to the border, subject to the relevant agreements being reached," he said.
Nurmammedov emphasized that Turkmenistan strives to transform the region into a "sustainable and secure energy hub." He stated that the country currently provides stable energy supplies to Afghanistan via five routes and also exports electricity to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan under long-term contracts.
The Ashgabat Economic Forum is taking place on January 21–22 as part of SPECA Week (the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia). The program was established in 1998 and brings together Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
