Turkmenistan and Russia are finalizing approval for a project to establish a joint university

The draft intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of a Turkmen-Russian university in Ashgabat is in the final stages of development, according to Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin.

"The draft intergovernmental agreement on the establishment and operating conditions of a Russian-Turkmen university in Ashgabat is in the final stages of development," the diplomat said.

Volynkin noted that over 54,000 students from Turkmenistan are currently studying at Russian universities. "In 2025, the Russian government's quota for Turkmen applicants to study at federal expense is 500 places," he added.

The ambassador also reported that the construction of a new building for the elementary grades of the Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary Comprehensive School named after A.S. Pushkin, which has been operating since 2002, is on the agenda.

According to Volynkin, 2025 was characterized by active Russian-Turkmen cultural cooperation. "Over 190 humanitarian events were organized, attended by approximately 16 thousand people," the diplomat noted.

He emphasized that the Russian Embassy's musical project "Diplomatic Notes," which included several concerts featuring works by Russian classics, generated great interest among Ashgabat audiences.
