In 2025, relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan reached a new level of strategic partnership. This was announced by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Turkmenistan Gismet Gozalov in an interview with AZERTAC.
The diplomat noted that high-level reciprocal visits have created the foundation for expanding cooperation in the economic, energy, transport, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. In July, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Baku and Karabakh, where initiatives to deepen bilateral cooperation were discussed.
In August, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev participated in a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in Avaza. The meeting concluded with the signing of important documents on cooperation in transport and transit.
The October summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Gabala provided another platform for strengthening relations. During the event, the foundation stone of a mosque was laid in the Azerbaijani city of Fuzuli, at the initiative of National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
In November, Azerbaijan was accepted as a full member of the Consultative Format of the Heads of State of Central Asia at the summit in Tashkent. Turkmenistan invited Azerbaijan to participate in the next summit of the format, which will be held in 2026.
